Mark Your Calendars

On Thursday June 23, 2022 at 7 p.m. NWL will be hosting a webinar, Seniors and Fraud Prevention. To present this important topic, we will welcome Roshan Quraishi CPA, CMA, from the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada’s Financial Literacy program. We invite you to join us for this discussion, which will be held virtually. Please keep an eye out for an email invitation to this event, as we will be providing participants with resource materials to read prior to the webinar.

Under the “P” for Prepared

The Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General came up with a unique way to mark Emergency Preparedness Week, which took place May 1-7, this year. They created a BINGO game to see what essential items need to be in an emergency kit to ensure everyone in a household is prepared for an emergency.  Here’s how it works:

1. Go get your emergency kit!

 2. Circle an item if it’s in your kit and see if you get a straight line or full-card bingo.

Preventing Bike Theft

The nicer weather brings many of us out on our bikes. Here are some tips from London police to help prevent bike theft.

  • Lock your bike in a location that is highly visible.
  • Use a high-quality lock.
  • If you are attending a store “just for a moment”, lock your bike up.

Spring Home Checklist

With the arrival of warmer weather, it’s a good time to check to see what needs to be done in your home and garden in advance of summer. Here are some tips from Realtor.com

  • Inspect brick and stone patios and walkways. Frost and heaving can cause shifts which make pavers uneven, causing possible safety problems.
  • Repair wooden fences and gates. Cold and wet weather may have caused warping, and gates to fall out of alignment.
  • Double check your air conditioning unit to make sure it’s in good working order before the hot weather arrives.
